In the course of his eighth term (2016-2020), Villar entered prison as he was implicated in several corruption cases along with his son Gorka and Juan Padrón, on July 20, 2017. The sidelines are made up of fences along the length of the field of play, plus 1 m towards the outside of the field to avoid out-of-bounds. The fences will have a height of 1.00 m to 1.20 m and a maximum slope of 10º towards the outside of the field. For the safety of the players, the side fences shall not have sharp edges, the edges shall be rounded with a radius of at least 4±1 mm and shall not have gaps larger than 8 mm that could cause finger entrapment, the surface shall be of flexible material or shall have cushioned shock absorbing protections, the surface of the cushioned protections shall be of a resistant material and must be fixed to the side fences. The height between the surface of the sports surface and the nearest obstacle in indoor facilities (underside of ceiling, hanging beam, light fixture, air conditioning duct, etc.) and in outdoor facilities shall be at least 7 m above the field and the outer strips, being at that height totally free of obstacles. In high-level competitions, it is recommended that the clear height be at least 10 m.
