How to talk to a progre pdf

In her first solo book, political scientist Gloria Álvarez dismantles with humor and simplicity the myths, arguments and preconceived ideas of the new progressives, understood as a group of extreme leftists who, from a position of moral superiority, claim to defend the interests of the working class. These pages collect the behaviors, messages and discourses of the new progressives.

The first part of the book is completely visceral; written with a combative tone, and with a biased and crystallized vision that falls into everything that criticizes the progressive mentality. In some passages the language is even offensive. The author places herself in a position contrary to the one she is attacking, making her book seem more like an invective that reminds us very much, due to the poverty of its vocabulary, of the procacious jargon of characters such as Donald Trump to whom, not without astonishment, it is made to sound as if he is the only one who is being attacked by the government.

The author, based on the criticisms that the Latin American left makes against the United States and the capitalist system, makes a forceful attack on a prototype of ideologized citizen, in order to dismantle his discourse and his main arguments.I believe that before any essay text, regardless of its ideology, one must value its clarity and the novelty that it can contribute to the debate. In this, the book clearly fails. It is structured with reiterative themes that do not go into depth.

The populist deception

Excellent book that narrates in a pleasant and simple way the thousands of contradictions as well as the Neurological Dissonance suffered by the Progressives and many tools to be able to identify them from a distance. Mandatory reading for Spanish speakers on either side of the Atlantic.

the book is very good although the robotic and dispassionate voice of the voice actress makes it sound like it was made by loquendo. in these productions the neutral Spanish that Mexicans use so well is very much missed. it would also be good if the chapter titles were included in the chapter index.

Gloria Álvarez also analyzes their beliefs, their vocabulary, their support for all kinds of social movements (environmentalism, feminism, pacifism…), their criticism of the capitalist system and their attribution of blame to the enemy, identifying how liberal ideology or, to paraphrase in her own terminology, anything that smells, is or looks neoliberal is disposable, even when such ideas help to reduce poverty and increase the welfare of society as a whole.Read more
