After the release of ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ in the summer of 2019, the next stone in the path of the ambitious project of The House of Ideas is ‘Black Widow’; the first solo film of the superheroine starring Scarlett Johansson. To warm up for its upcoming arrival in theaters, I propose you to review everything we know about the production to date; from the team in front of and behind the cameras to, of course, its release date.

Back in April, the House of Mouse announced the restructuring of its calendar, which relocated the feature film in question to November 6, 2020. Unfortunately, the inevitable happened and ‘Black Widow’ was delayed again, this time to May 7, 2021.

With a lead actress of Scarlett Johansson’s stature and popularity, it’s only natural and normal that the vast majority of eyes would be on her. But ‘Black Widow’ has a repertoire of supporting actors to rise to the occasion; and this begins with the name of Florence Pugh, the British actress who we have recently seen in titles such as ‘Midsommar’ or ‘Little Women’, and who will play Yelena Belova, Natasha’s replacement as Black Widow in the comics.

Seven Days in May is a 1964 American film directed by John Frankenheimer and starring Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas, Fredric March, Martin Balsam and Edmond O’Brien in the title roles, and Ava Gardner in a supporting role.

Although it was nominated for two Oscars, the film only managed to win the 1965 Hollywood Foreign Press Association Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor (Edmond O’Brien).[1] In Europe it won the 1964 David di Donatello Award for Best Foreign Actor (Fredric March), and the 1965 Bodil Award for Best Non-European Film (John Frankenheimer).

In the midst of the Cold War, U.S. President Jordan Lyman (Frederic March), an idealist, gets Congress to approve a major nuclear disarmament treaty with the Soviet Union. Many disagree and label him a soft touch.

General James M. Scott (Burt Lancaster), Chief of Staff and a popular hero with political aspirations, is the leader of those who oppose the treaty. Scott is unwilling to leave his nation defenseless and plans to overthrow the president.

Commentary: There are many films directed by John Frenkenheimer that simply evolve over time into great works of art. In their own way, they exemplify his innate sense of mystery, suspense and dark drama. In Seven Days in May we have what will surely become one of the finest examples of his craft.
