Si reside en España, tiene un número de seguridad social español y está cotizando activamente a la Seguridad Social española, debe solicitar el equivalente español de la Tarjeta Sanitaria Europea (TSE).

Si viaja al Reino Unido, o a cualquier otro país europeo, de vacaciones, por negocios o para visitar a familiares y amigos y necesita asistencia médica, la presentación de la misma le dará derecho a recibir asistencia médica, de forma gratuita.

Puede solicitar la tarjeta por Internet https://sede.seg-social.gob.es/Sede_6/ServiciosenLinea/Ciudadanos/232000_6, entrar en el servicio y rellenar los datos, o bien acudir a la oficina de la Seguridad Social más cercana, presentando su Tarjeta Sanitaria española (SIP) y su pasaporte y le expedirán una Tarjeta Sanitaria Europea.

Ser titular de un pasaporte británico ya no le da derecho a recibir asistencia sanitaria gratuita en el Reino Unido. Si no presenta su Tarjeta Sanitaria Europea puede recibir una factura por cualquier tratamiento médico recibido.
