Miguel de Molina was the most important queer coplero of all times. He never hid neither his sexual orientation, nor his mannerism on stage, although, when he reinvented the genre and dance, more than a pen, it manifested itself in a gesture that was unique to him. He did not act like a woman, he did not act with the typical masculinity of a man: he went on stage with boldness and Miguel de Molina’s trademark.
In his memoirs he recounts his first sexual encounter with «the Moor Samido» and says: «A long time later, when I was Miguel de Molina and I was on stage, I was performing Ojos verdes and when I sang the lines ‘y nunca una noche más bella de mayor he vuelto a vivir’ (I have never lived a more beautiful night as an adult), the image of Samido came to me like a flash of lightning».
In the Seville of 1929, Miguel de Molina made his first steps dancing and singing in all kinds of parties. He arrived in Madrid in 1930 and it was in the capital, at the mythical Villa Rosa in Plaza Santa Ana and at the Romea Theater, where he attracted attention and where the story of his own light began. «Then something very important for my career happened: I decided to create my first fancy blouse. Flamenco clothing consisted of the typical Andalusian costume. My blouses, for that time so plagued by prejudice, were quite daring and daring. My purpose was not to dress like a woman, but with a hint of feminine air», she says in her biography.

Several days later he had to perform at the Teatro Cómico, where the Frente de Juventudes (Falangists) booed him. «Marica, marica», they shouted at him. It was then when, as we mentioned before, he shushed the orchestra, approached the footlights and replied: «No faggot, faggot!».
In Esta es mi vida he says at the end of it: «And it is true, this is my life, because I carry the theater in my soul as I carry a song on my lips». Let’s hear from his lips some more of the songs he left for the memory in versions that are hard to beat. We include four below, all of them in different moments of the film Esta es mi vida: La hija de don Juan Alba, Don Triquitraque, Zorongo gitano and Catalina.

The challenge of playing this unique character is frightening. A bawdy, bawdy, revolutionary, extraordinary singer, proud and vindictive homosexual, Miguel de Molina was a whirlwind that requires a bigger one to be resurrected. And Ángel Ruiz is it. From his entrance on stage, with a very strong accent between Andalusian and Argentinian, he develops all the facets of the character, drawing laughter, applause and even tears…
…Ángel demonstrates to have a voice in a splendid moment that moves not only for its resemblance and technique but also for the thrill with which he interprets the songs. Embroidery that is accompanied, and it is also necessary to emphasize, with César Belda, pianist and musical director. And it is that the set arrives with ease by the elements that converge, which leaves us thinking about the direction of Juan Carlos Rubio, who no doubt has managed to combine them all and create an enveloping dramaturgy that is savored with great pleasure …
