As of July 1, 2016, electronic signature certificates must cease to be issued in favor of legal persons or entities without legal personality, although these certificates (in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism) may continue to be used until their expiration or revocation. To replace such certificates, electronic signature certificates for representatives of legal persons or entities without legal personality may be used.

In response to this need to confer security to Internet communications, the electronic signature, among others, has arisen. The electronic signature is an instrument capable of allowing verification of the origin and integrity of messages exchanged over telecommunication networks, providing the basis for avoiding repudiation, if the appropriate measures are adopted on the basis of electronic dates.
The parties that make the use of electronic signatures possible are the so-called certification service providers. For this purpose, they issue electronic certificates, which are electronic documents that link the electronic signature tools in the possession of each user with his personal identity, thus making him known in the telematic environment as a signatory.
The law obliges certification service providers to carry out a permanent guardianship and management of the electronic certificates they issue. The details of this management must be set out in the so-called certification practices statement, which specifies the conditions applicable to the request, issuance, use, suspension and termination of the validity of electronic certificates. In addition, these providers are obliged to maintain accessible a consultation service on the validity status of the certificates, which must indicate, in an updated manner, whether they are still valid or whether their validity has been suspended or terminated.
Digital covid certificate
By means of a simple procedure -that does not require more than a few minutes-, it is possible to obtain the digital certification that will accredit the user in multitude of web sites, facilitating the access to organisms and diverse institutions. On the other hand, it will serve to secure communications and, therefore, prevent anyone from impersonating another person on the network.
