It’s not all about fucking

After his military service, he meets the love of his life in Paris, the Canadian Annick, with whom he leaves for Canada, where he begins his career as a lyricist, inspired by the example of Georges Brassens and Leonard Cohen. His brother Jorge is in charge of setting the texts to music. He composes some songs interpreted, among others, by Rosa León.

His album Querencias y extravíos was released in December 2007, in a package that includes a book of conversations between the singer and the journalist Paloma Leyra. His 2010 album, Toser y cantar, also includes the book De mil amores, which contains a study of his work by writer and professor Miguel Tomás y Valiente, as well as illustrations by painter Octavio Colis.

I am accused of a series of things I have not done. I have not appeared on television cooking a Christ, neither do I appear in the images nor have I exhibited them, I do not have a hand in television. They come from a film that was made about me, with which I have nothing to do.

We take care of the sea

The volume portrays the features of a punctilious artist -Sabina said of him that he worked on his lyrics not to improve them, but to make them unbeatable-, brilliant and free, with an anarchist streak that made him uncomfortable to personnel and institutions of various colors, and which he synthesized in a memorable phrase: «I am an anarchist from five to six thirty, which is when I take a nap».

He endorsed, so to speak, numerous colleagues from Joaquín Sabina to Albert Pla, was a devoted admirer of Georges Brassens and a close colleague of Chicho Sánchez Ferlosio, who was the one who convinced him to interpret his own songs, which until then had been passed on to his brother Jorge or occasionally sung by Rosa León.

Sabina said of him that he worked on the lyrics not to improve them, but to make them unbeatableFifteen albums are the heritage of his sound and lyrical work, most of them published on the cooperative record label 18 Chulos, of which he was co-founder, since his relations with conventional record labels had not exactly been fluid. In this aspect, Javier Krahe. Ni feo, ni católico ni sentimental includes at the end an appendix in the form of complete lyrics of five songs, starting with El obseso sexual, and continuing with Cupido en invierno, Madrid al día, El canto de un duro and Mi bella Frankenstina.

The chromosome

«In this book is Krahe as I loved him and knew him,» says Joaquín Sabina, who was Krahe’s mentor, as he was Albert Pla’s, as well as Chicho Sánchez Ferlosio’s colleague. In turn, Javier was a great admirer of George Brassens, whom he considered his teacher.

In his lyrics, he left no one with a single head, whether he spoke of politics, religion or love. He never married anyone, with the exception of his civil marriage to the Canadian Annick Bloyard, and there were those he annoyed both left and right, always fleeing from any label: «I am an anarchist from five to six-thirty, which is when I take a nap», he said.

In each and every corner of his restless and interesting life Federico de Haro has entered, always hand in hand with family members (Annick, his children, Violante and Marco, and his brother Enrique) and friends of the portrayed. These are the ones who have opened the doors of their homes, their personal archives and their memory to tell everything we do not know about Javier Krahe.
